Meet Scruffy, our MCI class pet
Who is Scruffy?
Scruffy is a Cairn Terrier who lives
with Mrs. Smith and her family, but comes to school three days per week.
He is hypoallergenic and looks just like Toto, the most famous Cairn
Terrier. He loves the children in the MCI class and is very popular with
all the students and staff at High Point.
Why does he come to school?
To learn, of course. Scruffy started to
come to school when he was just 3 months old and has learned so much!
Mrs. Hicks, our classroom assistant, is a former professional dog
trainer and has helped us all learn how to train a dog properly. Scruffy
has also become a part of our curriculum in language arts, science and
math. We have kept Scruffy journals, publish a Scruffy newsletter, kept
measurement and weight charts and studied animal science.
What is Scruffy's best assett?
Scruffy gives unconditional love
and affection to everyone he meets. He provides silent counseling,
lends an understanding ear (or two) and has an uncanny ability to know
when to play and when to snuggle.
