Vision Statement
The mathematics department of High
Point Regional High School will offer a comprehensive curriculum aligned with
national and State standards that prepares all students to fully participate
as citizens in the 21st century. Students will be prepared to meet the state
graduation requirements and will have the mathematical background necessary
to enter the workforce, college or trade school. Different learning styles will
be addressed so that all students are successful learners. Students will explore,
make and test conjectures and develop a true understanding of mathematical concepts.
Critical thinking, problem solving and the ability to communicate mathematics
will be emphasized, using technology as a tool to enhance learning. Students
will develop an awareness of and appreciation for the empowering role mathematics
plays in our society.
Needs Statements
Using the Baldrige process, the mathematics department developed the following
four needs statements which we are working on this year.
A need exists to . . .
1) increase the use of technology in our classrooms.
2) improve the achievement of our practical level students.
3) review our modified level program.
4) reduce the repetition in our program.
